Like minded members of the club have formed special interest groups to allow them to pursue their interests outside the club's normal meeting times. The Club's special interest groups include the following:
Technology Interest Group (TIG):
This group is longest running one in the club and was initially called the 'Computer Interest Group' (CIG). As computers have become more reliable over the years the group has widened its scope to include other areas of technology, recognising that most modern technology now includes computer technology. At the July 2018 meeting the group agreed to change the name from CIG to TIG in recognition of the broader scope of the group. The group caters for members who have an interest in modern technology and how it effects our lives..
The group meets on the Thursday morning in the week prior to the main Probus meeting and, Unless otherwise informed, meetings are normally held on Zoom. Each 2 hour meeting commences at 10:00 am with approximately an hours' discussion of technology related issues raised by the members. The TIG Convenor chairs this informal discussion. The second hour is devoted to an interactive presentation,on a topic of interest.. This presentation aims to provide an understanding of how modern technology is changing the way we live. Some of the recent presentation sessions have included:

Wine Appreciation Groups (WIG):
The first of these two groups had its inaugural meeting in May 2012 to cater for those members who are/would like to be wine connoisseurs.
Group 1 meets on Thursday afternoons between 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm (after the sun is over the yardarm) in the week prior to the main Probus meeting and is hosted in the home of one of the members.
Because of increased interest, a second WIG group was set up in September 2016 and meets on the Thursday of the same week as the main Probus meeting.
Each meeting/wine tasting is usually hosted by one of the members of the group in their home.

Photographic Interest Group (PhIG):
The group brings together members who are specifically interested in photography, either stills or video. Meetings cover a range of topics from the technical aspects of shooting and editing photographs and video through to the artistic aspects (composition, special effects etc).
Photo topics chosen for a meeting may either be on a specific subject (eg Birds, trees), an event (eg Australia Day, Christmas) or a challenging photographic technique.
The PhIG meets on the Monday of the week prior to the main Probus Meeting between 10 am and 12 noon. Meetings are mainly being held using Zoom. The meeting format is to critique photos submitted by members for the first hour followed by a tutorial on a specific subject during the second hour.
Six members participated in the November 2024 meeting on Zoom with all submitting photos as shown below: This month the photo challenge was to take still photos that inferred movement, either by having the subject smeared with the background focussed or the subject clear with a smeared background. A third alternative was to take a picture of an action with a fast shutter speed, often with the subject in mid-air, which infers movement.

This Group was formed in January 2018 to meet the interests of Club members and partners who are interested in going on walks or hikes around Wollongong or further afield such as Sydney or elsewhere in the Illawarra or Southern Highlands. Group activities are decided by members and include a range from shorter, less physically demanding strolls, to longer more energetic walks, including bush walks. Walks are planned to be between about 4 to 5 kM long
